Gary, Indiana, officials approve medical waste, composting facilities

Gary, Indiana, officials approve medical waste, composting facilities.  The Gary, Ind. Board of Zoning Appeals gave the green light to a yard waste compost site and medical waste disposal facility, the Post-Tribune reported.

Forest View, Ill.-based Heartland Recycling LLC was approved for the yard waste compost site. The facility will be 37 acres and employ five to 10 workers, the newspaper reported. Local municipalities will serve as feedstock for the business.

The board also approved 9th Avenue Partners LLC to operate a medical waste disposal company in an industrial area of the city, the newspaper reported.

Both businesses need final approval from the City Council.
